Blackshear Bridge Bread & Roses Community Food Hub
Blackshear Bridge is building a community food hub in central east Austin! The children at Blackshear Elementary are growing veggies at Blackshear Elementary School. This fall the community is ready for the Bread & Roses School Farmers Market. Blackshear Bridge's healthy food programs are key to overcoming health issues prevalent in our historically African American and Latino neighborhood. You can help to build and sustain these much needed programs that Blackshear Bridge coordinates. Since we began Inch by Inch: Putting the Garden in Kindergarten, Blackshear Bridge has taught weekly wellness lessons at Blackshear Elementary School. The cafeteria manager reports an increase in the amount of vegetables that the children are eating. We're building on that great momentum. The Bread & Roses Community Farm Stand, awareness activities at a weekly garden gathering at the nearby public housing where many of the Blackshear students live, and seasonal picnics at the neighborhood schools form the spokes of the food hub Blackshear Bridge is building a program with our partner Huston-Tillotson University to bring college interns from the historically African American university across the street -- Austin's oldest institution of higher learning, to mentor the children. You can make it happen! Donate here --https://www.crowdrise.com/summermoonswellnesscampaign/fundraiser/blackshearbridge With your generous donation, we are collaborating, staffing, and coordinating these community wellness programs in fast-changing central east Austin this summer. Thank you!
